We've moved into the community with our little band of knitters and crocheters! We meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month, look for us at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers, Crossroads Towne Center, 3807 S. Gilbert Rd., Gilbert. Come to the coffee shop on the third Saturday each month at 10 a.m. and join us for a relaxing hour and a half of knitting and crocheting, great conversation, coffee & goodies. (You can even take a sneak peek at all those books while you're here.)

Prayer shawls are either knitted or crocheted, and when completed, given to anyone going through a time of illness, sorrow, transition, challenge, and joyous occasions in life such as the birth of a child or a marriage. As the shawl is knitted or crocheted, crafters offer prayers inviting God’s presence to be experienced by the recipient.

This unique ministry of comfort began in July 2004 with a few women who had a love of knitting and crocheting. Since our small beginnings we have given away many handmade prayer shawls to people who are going through a difficult time in their life. The shawl serves as a tangible reminder to each hurting person that they are covered in God’s all-encompassing love each time they wear the shawl.

If you know someone you would like to bless with a shawl or you would like to help by donating your time to knit or crochet, donate yarn or funds to purchase yarn please contact Rachel at theeggandi2000@yahoo.com.

This ministry has been extremely rewarding both for those making the shawls and for the recipients. Here are some comments from people who have received a prayer shawl ….

Shawl19.jpg

I wore it for the first time yesterday. As I walked down the hall to dinner, I heard many favorable and envious comments from the people in the dining room. It made me feel closer to many as they told me about experiences they had when they used to knit in the past. May God bless each and everyone of you as you knit and for your prayers.”

I would like to thank you for the beautiful prayer shawl. I will make good use of it when I go to the dinning room to eat. As it is always so cool for me. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.”
